Soon, civic staff under Sixth Pay Commission

The BMC will soon implement the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations for all its employees, Municipal Commissioner Subodh Kumar said on Tuesday.
The 24-hour strike planned by civic unions was cancelled on Tuesday after the BMC assured them of clearing the arrears for the past three years in the next two weeks. “We wish to sign the agreement by the month-end and till then, the strike has been called off,” said Sharad Rao of Municipal Mazdoor Union.
The implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission is expected to benefit over 80,000 municipal workers and will cost the BMC over Rs 300 crore.
While the establishment cost of the civic body is about 67 per cent, the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission is expected to increase the cost further by at least 10 per cent, said civic officials. A BMC sub-committee will look into how much allowance should be sanctioned to the employees under the Sixth Pay Commission .
The implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission will also mean less leave for employees, while the working hours will be as per the Centre’s norms. “If we plan to implement it, working hours and leaves will also be adjusted accordingly,” said Kumar.

Government employees to get 7 percent additional dearness allowance

NEW DELHI: Over four-million central government employees will go home with an increased pay packet from now, with the union cabinet Friday hiking the dearness allowance to 65 percent of the basic salary from the existing 58 percent with retrospective effect from Jan 1 this year.

The hike, about 7 percent from the present rates, will also be applicable to central government pensioners.

The increase in the allowances will cost the government exchequer Rs.7,474.53 crore annually, according to the decision taken at the cabinet meeting presided by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here.

Sixth Pay Commission to apply on pre-2006 retirees also: Central Administrative Tribunal

NEW DELHI: In a relief to senior citizens, who retired from government service before 2006, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has directed the Centre to re-fix their pension on the basis of recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission (VI CPC).
The order will provide relief to thousands of such retired government servants whose pension would increase substantially.
A three-judge bench of CAT headed by its Chairman Justice V K Bali quashed the August 29, 2008 government resolution which amended the recomendations of the sixth pay commission due to which the pre-2006 retirees were getting lower pension than the post 2006 retirees.
